The dead trap of niching down.

The riches are in the niches.

You probably heard this one before.

When you niche down too much, you can get stuck.

Imagine walking into a clothing store, and all they offer is black t-shirts. No colors. No designs.

Just plain black T-shirts.

When you’re a black t-shirt lover, you’ll run with it for a week.

But…

Wouldn’t it be nice to mix it up sometimes?

The key is to find a balance and variation within your niche.

Think of it as being a clothing store owner who specializes in casual wear but can also offer a variety of styles from graphic tees to comfy hoodies.

Now that you’ve followed all the basement dweller gurus’ advice to niche down until you can’t breathe anymore, it’s time to un-niche a little bit.

This is how you do that:

The Three-Step Un-Niche Yourself Framework.

Identify other problems your audience struggles with.

You’ll find these problems in your surveys and interview transcripts.

Easy peasy.

Follow the signal.

It’s time to be open-minded and listen even more to your audience.

In my case, I teach people to build and sell courses and chill along the way.

These are the additional problems besides course creation:

  • Business systems.
  • Time management.
  • How to niche down.
  • Earning a decent MRR.
  • Planning and structure.
  • How to deal with procrastination.

Follow the crowd, NOT your mind.

Feedback loops.

The beauty of online courses is flexibility.

Test different topics, gather feedback, and don’t be afraid to adjust.

Remember, even the best clothing stores adjust their collections based on customer trends and preferences. Niching down is essential, but overdoing it can be a trap.

Like a clothing store that evolves its collection while keeping its signature style, your courses should evolve.

Embrace flexibility, simplicity, and watch your course sales grow.

Here’s to designing a diverse and fulfilling course offering in 2024!
