How to make your clients dance.

I’m a sucker for happiness.

Pure happiness comes from within.

And don’t worry, this essay will not be about inner peace, although I believe every living soul should chase happiness.

Today, I like to talk about customers.

You’re dead in the water when you don’t have a steady stream of happy clients.

What you seem to forget (I’m guilty as charged as well.) is that it’s easier to sell to clients who bought from you.

The best way to grow your business is to make your clients happy.

Period.

Here is one of my favourite quotes from the book Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh.

If you haven’t read it, shame on you. Get the book.

It will change how you look at running a business and selling courses.

Here we go.

“Happiness is really just about four things: perceived control, perceived progress, connectedness (number and depth of your relationships), and vision/meaning (being part of something bigger than yourself).”
– Tony Hsieh.

So, how do you make your clients happy?

This is what I do:

The H.A.P.P.N.E.S.S factor.

Honesty.

The base of every relationship starts with transparency.

The great Joe Sugerman writes about the flaws of his products in his copy.

It makes it real and honest. Be real.

Attentiveness.

Be mindful of your clients.

Send them a little postcard. It’s not about the big things you do.

It’s all about the small things that make your clients feel they’re seen.

Personalisation.

When you mention a person’s name, it builds the ultimate connection.

Combine that with being yourself, and you’ll beat all those zombified hordes that copy the next fad from 18-year-old basement dwellers.

Be yourself.

Promptness.

Do as you say will get you a long way.

When your onboarding emails promise a gift, make sure you deliver it.

It’s a small thing that will make you stand out.

90% of coaches and consultants fuck this up.

Deliver what you promise on time.

Integrity

Live and die by your own beliefs.

Share your values and throw rocks at your enemies.
This ties in deeply with being yourself.

Your clients need a strong leader. You’re the one NEO

Nurture.

Building trust takes time.

You’re not going to ask a beautiful girl to marry you on the first date, right?

Stop doing that to your clients.

Take your time. People are ready to buy on their terms, never on yours.

Exceed expectations.

Under promise and overdeliver.

It is a very simple way of always exceeding expectations.

Smile

Before you close your laptop and put me on the crazy guys list, hear me out.

I dare you this morning to do the following:

Smile to the first person you see.
Smile when you write your sales copy.
Smile when you talk to clients on Zoom.

Don’t just listen to me. Try it out.

And take me off your crazy list, please.

Satisfaction

When you get client results and make them happy, they will become walking billboards.

It will cut your ad budget in half and increase your happiness.

I love it when things come full circle.

Now, you can close your laptop and chill.
